Q&A With a Creative: Meet Ebun

Picture10.png

Ebun Andu: the easy-going, often grey-haired chick who has a thing for architecture, photography and all things FILA. A scroll through her instagram alone betrays these facts. But what’s really interesting is finding out that, yes, she’s a photographer, but she’s completely self-taught.

Besides a love for capturing people, striking structures and buildings also make their way onto her page. Which is hardly surprising, considering she’s an Architecture student at Birmingham City University.

Ebun’s style is laidback with a vintage feel: A-line skirts, circle sunglasses, mom jeans and checked shirts. She’s an absolute babe, so I was happy that I could ask her a few questions…

ADIDAS BLACK AND WHITE ADILETTE SLIDES | OFFICE

On Wednesday 6th July at 8.30 PM, my mom and I had just touched down in Malaga, Spain. Before this, it had literally been over five years since I last had a sun-soaked, culture-filled holiday. So this little getaway was well overdue, because my melanin hasn’t been poppin’ for more than a hot minute. Plus seeing what other countries have to offer is good for inspiration – something I’ve been lacking lately.

I also get to comfortably wear this hot ass dress from Missguided. Oh, how I’ve been waiting to put on this baby. So…sun, sea and mesh AKA everything I adore.

But speaking of sun and mesh….

Minimal & Monochrome

IMG_0043.jpg

WEARING:
BLACK TRIANGLE FRONT CLASP BRALET | URBAN OUTFITTERS
DOT STRIPED CULOTTES | PRIMARK
BLACK LEATHER JACKET | FOREVER 21
ANKH CHOKER & EARRINGS | EBAY
BLACK & WHITE SK8-HI VANS | SCHUH

The monochrome trend stems back from the 60’s but it hasn’t ever really left us. Black and white tend to be most people’s go-to colours, after all. They compliment every colour and shade on the wheel but, together, they couldn’t be more striking.

I know that a mostly black outfit isn’t everyone’s initial idea of a summer ensemble. But you can look cool (and literally feel even cooler) if that ‘fit involves a bralet and flowy linen culottes…

It’s All in the Fine [Art] Print: Neva Hosking

2ND HEADER.jpgThe artist in me, no matter how procrastinating that artist is, has been dying to blog about my other love as well as fashion. The question wasn’t in whether I would end up writing about artists and their work, but rather who and how?

I unexpectedly found my answers after having a general scroll through Instagram, where I stumbled upon Australian artist Neva Hosking’s page. I instantly fell in love with her striking prints with all their fine lines and scrupulous attention to detail. And I’m sure you will, too.

Pink and Black ft. The Suede Cap

2ND HEADER

WEARING:
BLUSH SUEDE CAP | LAMODA
PLEATED AWKWARD LENGTH TROUSERS | TOPSHOP
UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON BLACK TEE | HANDED DOWN FROM AUNT DEAREST
PINK LONG BOMBER JACKET | BERSHKA
BLACK FISHNET SOCKS | LAMODA
NIKE AIR MAX | NIKE OUTLET STORE

I know…”damn, Keenia, back at it again with the black and pink thing?”. Cue moans and grumbles. I’m actually not sorry this time because I’ve just embraced that these colours are doing bits for me, and I’m going with it unapologetically. But I feel as though the main highlights of the ‘fit have to be the pink longline bomber jacket and suede cap. These outfit focal points also give me the opportunity to tell you all a bit about the [seriously sassy] brands that I bagged them from.

So, in the name of all that’s pink, black, Bershka, and Lamoda – let’s get to it.

Clothing Line Lookout: Philippé Remy

HEADER IMAGE 2.png

As I mentioned in my first Clothing Line Lookout post, new clothing lines and brands are popping up all the time in the likes of little ol’ Birmingham. You can imagine how hard it must be to not get overlooked in such a crowded scene. One of Birmingham’s freshest brands, Philippé Remy, is refusing to stand unspotted in the background. Set to officially launch on 29th May, the line has already got people talking. With Paigey Cakey and Mikes Comedy donning their pieces ahead of the release, the buzz around the brand can only be expected to get louder. Philippé Remy are really doing it right.

Must Have: Slipper Vibes with FENTY PUMA by Rihanna Slides

MAIN HEADER.pngRihanna always has put in that work, work, work, work, work when it comes to designing and collaborating with brands. From coming out with her own fragrance, to collaborating with MAC, to even bringing out her own collection of socks with Stance (with a third collaboration in the works already!).

As if that wasn’t enough, one of the hottest fashion collaborations of 2015 involved Rihanna. If you don’t know what I’m referring to there, then you might just need to roll out from under that rock you’ve been living under. Riri and PUMA have been coming out with some hot new things, like the pieces in the Fenty x PUMA Autumn/Winter 2016/17 show during her NY Fashion Week debut (bringing in Gigi and Bella Hadid to strut in Ri’s stuff on the walk), and releasing hotly anticipated ‘The Creeper’ and ‘The Trainer’. One of which sold out pretty much immediately after being made available for purchase. Twice. I see the same happening for her new awaited release: The Fur Slide.Read More »

Q&A With a Creative: Meet Shaq

2nd header

Q&A With a Creative is my first series I’ll be playing around with on the blog, where once (sometimes, twice) every few months, I’ll be getting into the creative mind of someone cool. When I say cool, I don’t mean just someone who has a cool sense of style, either. I mean someone who is doing something with that style, and/or undertaking other creative activities as well as just looking badass.

Well, to put it plainly, Shaquille Isaac is badass. No one said that you have to walk around in pop colours and adorn yourself head to toe in one-off designer pieces to make a statement. Shaq gets that – he’s like the master of monochrome, keeping outfits neutral and clean. Does this mean you wouldn’t break your neck to pree his ‘fits for inspo if he walked past you? Erm, definitely not! But a great sense of style isn’t the only weapon in Shaq’s creative arsenal. You might want to add photographer and budding blogger to the collection…Read More »

Orange and Grey ft. Art Socks

post header image 2

WEARING:
DARK ORANGE RIBBED TURTLENECK TOP | H&M
GREY HIGH WAISTED TROUSERS | URBAN OUTFITTERS
‘THE SCREAM’ ART SOCKS | EBAY
CLASSIC M754 NEW BALANCE IN GREY/OFF-WHITE | OFFICE

I go through phases of obsession all the time. The results are clear if you were to have a peak in both of my wardrobes – the aftermath of these episodes aren’t very pretty. My love for the colour grey has probably surpassed the ‘phase’ stage because now it’s just a part of my life. My hair is currently grey, my bedroom is grey, my soul is probably some shade of it and, as you may have already guessed, so are my clothes.

Sometimes, though, it’s time to lighten up. Literally. Add some pops of colour every now and then or, even better, follow my lead and throw on some art socks too. Channel those art student vibes (even if you aren’t/never were one).

Adidas Everything (Almost) Down to the Socks

post feature image

ADIDAS THREE STRIPES LONG SLEEVE BLACK T-SHIRT | URBAN OUTFITTERS
WHITE DISTRESSED DUNGAREES | BOOHOO
BLACK ADIDAS CREW SOCKS | SPORTS DIRECT
ADIDAS ORIGINAL SUPERSTAR FOUNDATION TRAINERS | SCHUH

Keenia and Adidas should be synonymous. The brand has been after my heart ever since I laid eyes on an old Adidas Originals top my mom used to sleep in. Aged but authentic, ORIGINAL Adidas (incredibly baggy too, you know how I like it). I had to rescue it from her neglect and since then, I have been in love with the Three Stripes.

Basically, if we’re not talking Adidas, I don’t really wanna talk. Nike just doesn’t do it for me in the same way. Nothing touches Adidas Originals…old school always did it best, after all.Read More »
